HEMP OIL vs CBD OIL

In today’s blog we will look at two very popular products made from industrial hemp: hemp oil and CBD oil. They are both made from hemp, but are actually very different. Continue reading to find out what the differences are.

INDUSTRIAL HEMP

Industrial hemp (Cannabis Sativa L.) has a very long history of cultivation. It has huge importance in many industries because of its fiber, oil, and other parts of the plant. The hemp market has been growing very rapidly over the past few years and it is expected to grow even more in the future.

Despite all the potential benefits we could derive from hemp, it is still facing numerous challenges, primarily legal and social pressures, because of its association with marijuana. But things are slowly changing for the better and hemp is finally being appreciated and used for its many potential benefits.

HEMP USE

Hemp is used to make a variety of products, including rope, textiles, clothing, shoes, food, paper, bioplastics, insulation, and biofuel. This plant has such high-quality fibers that we could make textiles from 100% hemp, but we usually mix it with other fibers, like cotton, silk, and flax. In addition, the seeds can be processed and used as paints, creams, bird food, etc.

Let’s focus on hemp seeds a little. They are very high in protein and a great source of iron. Hemp seeds can be eaten raw, ground into hemp meal, or made into dried sprout powder. The most popular use of hemp seeds is making hemp-seed oil. Normally, it is cold-pressed from the seeds.

HEMP OIL vs CBD OIL

The main difference is that hemp oil contains little to no CBD.

Production – Hemp oil is made by cold pressing the seeds into normal culinary oil. CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the leaves and stalks of the hemp plant.
Besides CBD, some other compounds are also extracted from the plant, creating a more beneficial product.

Nutrients – Hemp-seed oil is rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids. However, since it has practically no CBD, it is missing the potential therapeutic benefits CBD can give you.

Benefits – As we stated before, hemp-seed oil is super rich in omegas (otherwise known as good fats) and has 25 times more omegas than olive oil. On the other hand, CBD oil exhibits considerable anti-inflammatory properties, alleviates dermatologic conditions and can help the overall condition of your skin.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, hemp-seed oil and CBD oil are both made from hemp. But since they are produced differently, they have different compounds and consequently different uses and benefits.

CBD oil will give you more specific benefits. Hemp-seed oil should be an important part of your cooking routine because it has so many healthy fatty acids and omegas.
